Alex (44), who lives with partner Phil and has a young 7yr old son, has decided to make a change in her career, moving from caring for people to caring for pets instead.

Petpals Basingstoke will offer everything from dog walking and home visits for cats and small pets to pet transportation and vet visits for owners who can’t get away from work or who simply haven’t got the time to attend those vital appointments. She is also now taking bookings for Christmas.

Of her new business Alex said,

‘I have spent the vast majority of my working life caring for people whether elderly or more recently adults with learning disabilities, so caring is absolutely in my blood but it’s time for a change and I’m so excited to be starting up this new business, meeting the furry, fluffy and scaly pets and their owners, of Hampshire.’

Currently the owner of two cats and some tropical fish, Alex grew up in a house full of animals, owning and looking after cats and dogs, guinea pigs, hamsters, tortoises, terrapins, tropical fish, goldfish, piranha fish, preying mantises, insects and even newts!

In stark contrast to her former ‘indoor’ life, Alex’s new job will see her out and about, wearing a fleece and wellies and driving her fully branded van that comes complete with secure pet cages.  Her daily routine will include visiting client’s homes while they are out at work, on holiday or those that are sick, less able or elderly, feeding their guinea pigs, rabbits, snakes and cats then taking local dogs on walks in the county’s parks and woodlands.

‘One couldn’t live in a better area to run a pet care company; Hampshire is full of pet owners, we have fantastic dog walks on our doorstep and plenty of people who work all of which means, hopefully, I can get on with my new job of being a pet carer and let Basingstoke’s busy pet owners get on with their lives and jobs too.’

In a move that will be sure to please busy owners, who may not already have arrangements, Alex is now taking bookings for pet care over the Christmas period and is expecting to be full very soon; owners are asked to contact her ASAP if they need help during the holidays.
